About Us

MinterEllison is an international law firm, headquartered in Australia and regarded as one of Asia-Pacific's premier law firms. Our teams collaborate across Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the UK to deliver exceptional service.

We have a clear goal: to be our clients' best partner. We put the client at the centre of everything we do and partner with them to deliver truly innovative solutions. We also think beyond the law, offering clients advisers who are multi-disciplinary and industry-facing to help them achieve strategic goals, grasp business opportunities and create value for their stakeholders.

Our Team

Our national government and administrative law litigation team is headed by Partners Alice McCormick and Will Sharpe. This particular role is based in our Brisbane office. You will be working closely with Julian Pinder (Special Counsel) and Alice McCormick (Partner), as well as Shane Evans (Partner) who leads the team in Brisbane. MinterEllison has a strong government practice, and provides legal and strategic advice to a number of agencies in relation to a range of issues, including administrative decisions and good decision making, statutory interpretation and legislative review, privacy, and freedom of information. The team also conducts high volume and high profile litigation, including a large amount of solicitor advocacy for clients such as the Department of Home Affairs and the Department of Human Services.

What you need

You will be a motivated, focused and experienced lawyer who is seeking a challenging and involved role within an outstanding team. You will possess strong interest in court and tribunal advocacy and administrative law. You will have excellent attention to detail and be able to meet tight deadlines.

We are looking for candidates who have experience in administrative and government law (including government litigation, and particularly judicial and merits review). While we are ideally looking for a 3–6 year lawyer, we also welcome applications from any lawyers who are experienced in, or can demonstrate a strong interest in, this specialised area.

We welcome applicants with:

  • strong administrative law knowledge and experience;
  • experience and interest in conducting litigation for government;
  • strong technical and drafting skills;
  • experience in advocacy;
  • great attention to detail;
  • sound time management;
  • a client focus and demonstrated ability to form enduring relationships with peers, clients and industry experts;
  • commitment to working as part of a dynamic team and interest in developing leadership skills to manage the administrative law litigation practice in Brisbane; and
  • resilience and a commitment to providing exceptional levels of service to our client base.

Our diverse and talented team enjoys a culture of collaboration, innovation and inspiration. We are committed to your career development by leveraging the unique strengths you bring to the team and building your capabilities and business acumen to take you to the next level.

We care about ensuring that you balance your professional goals with your commitments and interests outside of work, and provide a wide range of social, financial and health benefits to support your wellbeing.
