Your role

A great opportunity exists for a newly created Practice Team Leader role in our Melbourne office. The Practice Team Leader is accountable for the practice management of the Melbourne Real Estate team as well as leadership and management of the group's legal support.  You will be a key member of the management team working alongside the Practice Group Heads, key Partner stakeholders and other Business Operations professionals.  The role may expand to be accountable for another team over time.  As a key addition to the Melbourne office, some of your areas of responsibilities will include:

  • Financial (monitor profitability and workflow projections, group expenses, reporting for group Partners, monthly WIP/Debt reporting)
  • Practice management (business improvement and financial hygiene, legal support strategies, lead role interacting with Business Operations, driving actions from Partners' meetings, coordinate team meetings)
  • People leadership and management (leading team through cyclical processes, day to day issues, performance management, recruitment)
  • Resource and workflow management (reporting on lawyer/paralegal utilisation, resourcing management support to Practice Group Head, manage support ratios, leave coordination and approvals)

What you need

  • 5+ years' practice management and people leadership experience in a legal firm or professional services environment
  • proven experience in successfully managing a team of legal support staff, with a demonstrated ability to coach, engage and develop people at various career levels
  • demonstrated experience in contributing to the growth and success of the  organization through financial, resource and general practice management
  • the ability influence and guide a large team of legal professionals while working with multiple stakeholders at all levels
  • the ability to create and manage an inclusive team environment by actively encouraging participation, dialogue, and open communication amongst team members and other groups
  • exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • strong influencing and change management skills with the ability to network and develop professional relationships
