About Us

MinterEllison is an international law firm, headquartered in Australia and regarded as one of Asia-Pacific's premier law firms. Our teams collaborate across Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the UK to deliver exceptional service.

We have a clear goal: to be our clients' best partner. We put the client at the centre of everything we do and partner with them to delivery truly innovative solutions. We also think beyond the law, offering clients advisers who are multi-disciplinary and industry-facing to help them achieve strategic goals, grasp business opportunities and create value for their stakeholders.

Our Team

Our government and administrative law litigation team is headed by Partners Will Sharpe and Julian Pinder. This particular role is based in our Sydney office. You will be working closely with Julian Pinder (Partner), whose practice is centred in government and administrative law. MinterEllison has a strong government practice, and provides strategic advice to a number of agencies in relation to a range of issues, including administrative decisions and good decision making, statutory interpretation and legislative review, privacy and freedom of information. The team also conducts high volume and high profile litigation, including a large amount of solicitor advocacy for clients such as the Department of Home Affairs and the Department of Human Services.

What you need

You will be a motivated, focussed and experienced lawyer who is seeking a challenging and involved role within an outstanding team. You will possess strong interest in court and tribunal advocacy and administrative law. You will have excellent attention to detail and be able to meet tight deadlines. We are looking for candidates who have experience in administrative and government law (including government litigation and judicial review) and while we are ideally looking for a 2–5 year lawyer we also welcome applications from more or less experienced lawyers with strong interest or experience in government and administrative law.

We welcome applicants with:

  • Strong administrative law experience;
  • Strong technical and drafting skills;
  • Experience in advocacy;
  • Great attention to detail;
  • Sound time management;
  • A client focus and demonstrated ability to form enduring relationships with peers, clients and industry experts;
  • A team player attitude; and
  • Resilience and a commitment to provide exceptional levels of service to our local and international client base.

We would also look favourably upon applicants who have an employment history within a legal branch of a Commonwealth government department.

What we offer

This year, MinterEllison was recognised by Lawyers Weekly as Australia’s most attractive employer in the legal sector, placing first on its 2019 Top 25 Attraction Firms list.
