The Team

As part of the Corporate Services team, the objectives of Business Services are to support the lawyers and staff to consolidate the Firm's position in the top tier, provide products and services to integrate all offices and to conduct continual process reviews.

We are currently looking for a Business Services Assistant to join our Corporate Services team in Canberra.

Your Role

Business Services comprises:

  • Office Services - search and lodgement, printing/photocopying/scanning, mail, couriers, fax, stationery, print room fleet management, disbursements and recoveries, purchasing, switchboard and word processing.
  • Premises - space planning, maintenance, moves, archiving, storage, safe custody, audio visual, repairs, security, car parking, management of sub-tenancies, environmental/energy initiatives and relevant business continuity plans.

The duties will include:


  • Participate in staff meetings to discuss areas of activity, concern and general feedback
  • Assist with the induction process
  • Contact point for operational issues - internal clients, process or service delivery related issues, national counterparts, supplier and service providers
  • Assist in the promotion of personal and team visibility


  • Assist and respond to all queries in a pleasant, helpful and professional manner
  • Perform the day-to-day operations efficiently, accurately, professionally, timely and cost effectively
  • Perform tasks of other Business Services Assistants when required
  • Participate in the national alignment of policies, procedures, products and services
  • Assist with the development of statistical information to monitor services and highlight areas for improvement
  • Regularly review procedures to ensure any improvements to efficiency and cost effectiveness can be made
  • Assist with general maintenance and consumable supplies
  • Monitor and check supplier invoices and submit for approval to Supervisor/Manager
  • Respond actively and positively to new tasks and opportunities
  • Other duties as directed by the Supervisor / Manager

More About You

We welcome applications from people with:

  • at least 12 months experience working within a similar role
  • experience in a back-office administration role covering mail, print room and facilities management 
  • exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to liaise with people at all levels
  • ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment
  • a strong, proactive client service focus
  • an ability and willingness to undertake physically taxing and mobile work
  • a high level of initiative
  • a high degree of technical skills with a sound knowledge of Word & Excel
  • ability to prioritise a variety of tasks and responsibilities
  • a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • resilience and a commitment to excellence that matches our own
  • the ability to work with minimal direction
  • You will also require a current Australian drivers' licence
