The Team

The national Business Development team at MinterEllison is a high performing and critical component of the law firm and essential to the firm's success. The Business Development team supports the partnership by providing the full spectrum of business development and marketing services to ensure the firm develops and maintains strong relationships with new and existing clients.

The Major Proposals team is responsible for managing the creation and submission of the firm's significant tenders and proposals. The team also drive proposal best practice across the firm.

Your Role

You will be working with National Proposals Manager and the firm's Pricing Lead. 

Your duties will include:

  • Provide valuable and actionable pricing insights to support:
    • Industry and account pricing performance
      • Peer Monitor benchmarking (Agreed Rates)
      • Client Rate Comparison
      • Client Rate Indexation levels and control
      • Exception Profitability Analysis (only in cases where the firm's standard profitability analysis is insufficient / not appropriate)
      • Discount / Write-off Control (in collaboration with Finance Reporting and Analysis)
    • Proposals and other price negotiations
      • Standard Matter Pricing Analysis
      • Exception Matter Pricing Analysis (utilisation and leverage)
      • Secondment Pricing Analysis (in collaboration with Finance)
    • Business Unit Pricing Performance
      • Pricing Performance Reporting (Rate-mix analysis)
      • Discount / Write-off Control (in collaboration with Finance Reporting and Analysis)
      • Rack rate flow through report
      • Key Driver Ready Reckoner analysis
  • Administer and maintain the firm's pricing performance reporting processes and platforms
  • Develop the firm's pricing analytics and tools suite to enhance effectiveness, frontline empowerment and useability
  • Maintain Pricing-related support information (e.g. guidelines, benchmarks, standard terms and conditions etc) on the firm's intranet and Proposal Hub
  • Support firm projects in a Pricing Analyst capacity as required
  • Perform other tasks as required by the Proposal Manager or Pricing Lead.

More About You

To be successful in this role you will need to have:

  • Bachelor degree in Commerce or Business (or other Management Accounting qualification)
  • Be completing, have just graduated from the above degree, and/or have 12 months experience within a corporate environment
  • A go getter, quick learner
  • Very strong Microsoft Excel, Power Pivot skills.
  • Good statistical, numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal presentation/communication skills especially of data-driven insights.
  • Strong commercial acumen (ROI, NPV, Payback period, Margin, ROE etc).
  • Service-oriented, responsible and committed, willing to go the extra mile when required.
  • Thrives in a high-stakes, fast turnaround, collaborative environment.
  • Friendly, positive person who wants to be part of a large cross-functional team with diverse skills, knowledge and styles.
  • SQL skills while not essential would be highly valued.
  • Knowledge of Elite 3M and is data model, particularly the pricing data tables and entity relationships while not essential would be highly valued.
  • Experience in pricing or knowledge of pricing theory, price negotiations particularly in a professional services or legal services business.

In terms of qualities, you will need to have a "can do" attitude, fantastic communication skills and a commitment to excellent and responsive outcomes. You will also need to be able to handle pressure, multitask and think laterally but sensibly at all times.
