An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Associate or a Senior Associate to join MinterEllison’s Intellectual Property and Technology, Digital and Data team, based in Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne (reporting to a Partner in Brisbane). This role has a strong front‑end focus, advising on technology and IP‑driven transactions, commercialisation, collaboration and innovation projects for a diverse mix of public and private sector clients. Flexible full‑time and part‑time arrangements are available.
The Role
Working alongside a national team of highly regarded IP and technology partners and lawyers, you will support clients to achieve their commercial, regulatory and policy objectives across a broad range of complex matters.
Your work will include advising on both commercial and regulatory issues, from drafting and negotiating sophisticated contracts through to advising on compliance with Australia’s:
- intellectual property laws
- data protection and privacy regimes
- digital and emerging technology regulation (including AI)
- franchising, information security and security of critical infrastructure frameworks
This role offers exposure to high‑profile, intellectually challenging work, with the opportunity to collaborate closely with our technology and risk consulting teams.
You will act for both government and corporate clients who trust MinterEllison with their most significant and complex matters, working in a genuinely collaborative, national practice alongside lawyers recognised as leaders in their field.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and a genuine interest in technology, IP and data‑driven regulation.
We welcome applications from candidates who have:
- a minimum of 3 years’ post‑admission experience
- qualifications in Australia, the UK or New Zealand
- strong experience in commercial and regulatory work, including contract drafting and advisory matters
- demonstrated experience in, and a long‑term interest in, front‑end technology, digital, data and IP matters
- the ability to deliver high‑quality, pragmatic and commercially focused advice, often under pressure
- a strong client‑service mindset, with the ability to build trusted, long‑term relationships
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- the ability to thrive in a highly collaborative, team‑based environment
- an interest in contributing to business development, including client presentations, training and publications
- resilience, professionalism and a commitment to excellence; and
- pride in your work and the firm you represent.
