The Team
MinterEllison has leading government, dispute resolution and insurance practices across its Australian offices. These practices regularly act for private and government clients in state and federal courts and tribunals, as well as providing legal and strategic advice on a range of legal issues.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Associate to join our Insurance and Corporate Risk team. This role is based in our Canberra office, and the successful candidate will be working primarily with Partners Tom Galvin and Kemsley Brennan, along with other senior members of our Canberra and national teams.
In this role you will have responsibility for a range of civil litigation and advisory matters. You will manage a caseload of insurance litigation proceedings before the ACT Magistrates Court and ACT Supreme Court, as well as assisting with other civil litigation and/or public law matters. You will also be involved in providing legal and strategic advice to insurers, private clients and/or government clients on a range of legal issues.
This role may involve some solicitor advocacy, as well as instructing counsel in more complicated matters. The role will require the supervision and review of the work of more junior staff and working with the Partners on client development and training.
More About You
You will be a motivated, focused and enthusiastic lawyer who is seeking a new challenge, working within an outstanding and collaborative national team.
We are looking for candidates who have strong civil litigation experience, with experience acting for a variety of insurers (including government insurers, corporate self-insurers and general insurers), private clients and/or government clients.
We welcome applications from lawyers who possess:
- 5+ years' experience in private practice at leading firms;
- strong client focus and demonstrated ability to form enduring relationships with peers, clients and industry;
- a willingness to drive the development of the practice and new client relationships;
- experience appearing as a solicitor advocate, instructing counsel, and attending settlement conferences;
- strong technical and drafting skills;
- resilient and committed to excellence that matches our own;
- work in a highly collaborative environment;
- strong attention to detail and time management skills; and
- take pride in their work and who they work for.
