The Team

The Client & Market Growth (CMG) team is MinterEllison’s high performing national marketing and business development function. The team supports the Partnership to achieve its strategic sustainable growth objectives through developing and executing on the full spectrum of business development and marketing initiatives. This work is a critical component to the firm’s success, ensuring the firm maintains strong relationships with new and existing clients.

About the role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Business Development Manager based in Melbourne to lead the Victorian Government account through the next phase of our firm's strategy. This exciting opportunity will work closely with several Partners across our Victorian Government practice to drive and execute on a range of BD activities that support sustainable revenue growth. This key client facing role will be pivotal in supporting Partners to identify and activate market opportunities, assessing sales opportunities, driving value propositions and solution development and managing key pursuits and tenders.

 

In this role you will:

 

  • Support the Victorian Government CRP to develop and execute a successful and sustainable account management program.
  • Work with a range of Partners and Senior Lawyers to activate opportunities that expand our market reputation and engage on matters that matter.
  • Collaborate with CMG and Business Operations colleagues to deliver optimal account delivery, including on the firm's adjacent Tasmanian Government Panel.
  • Develop effective client strategies and account plans, identifying meaningful avenues to profile the firm's expertise internally and externally.
  • Lead the management of client service team plans and meetings, client planning sessions and workshops.
  • Collaborate with other CMG team members to present data to identify strategic trends, insights, opportunities, share learnings and drive informed decisions and solutions on marketing strategy.
  • Assist with proactive development of pipeline pursuits and develop tailored pursuits for target opportunities.
  • Measure, assess and report on the effectiveness of marketing and business development identifying trends.
  • Design and execute targeted marketing campaigns in collaboration with our Brand, Marketing and Communications (BMC) team to enhance MinterEllison’s market positioning.
  • Foster collaborative and trusted relationships to support cross firm collaboration and client opportunities.

You will bring your professional services business development and client account management experience, knowledge of working in a similar environment and capability to truly shape the role. We welcome applications from seasoned BD professionals who ideally possess:

 

  • Ability to form effective relationships and collaborate as part of a large team contributing to firm's purpose of creating sustainable value with our clients, people and communities. 
  • Understanding of how government/s operate and do business.
  • Demonstrated ability to identity tangible pipelines and client opportunities to successfully drive sustainable revenue growth.
  • Strong influencing skills to manage senior stakeholders – both legal and non-legal - including the ability to advise when marketing and BD efforts do not provide a return on investment.
  • Ability to work within in a matrix management structure.
  • Experience in leading key stakeholders to evaluate and deliver pitch, tender and proposal responses.
  • Agility to work with Partners to develop strategies for key clients by building relationships with clients and industry/market leaders.
  • Ability to drive and execute actions from internal and external client listening opportunities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Highly proactive with identifying cross-firm opportunities and a client service focus.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Communications or Business or a related discipline (can be in addition to a law or business unit related degree).
  • Marketing and/or sales experience in a robust and mature services environment, ideally B2B or Professional Services.
