Your role
A great opportunity currently exists for an Associate or Senior Associate with at least three post-admission years of experience to join our Perth Insurance and Corporate Risk team and work with Melissa Joyce, who is nationally recognised for her pre-eminence in insurance law. We have a diverse and well-established client base, including public liability, professional indemnity and workers' compensation insurers, ASX–and foreign–listed resource and mining companies, self-insured corporations and not-for-profit organisations. We advise them on public, professional, product and employers' liability claims, workers' compensation claims, employment practices liability claims, discrimination claims, defamation allegations and many other insurable liabilities.
While some experience in advising insurers on policy coverage is desirable, we also recognise the depth of experience that can be acquired working in a plaintiff-focussed practice.
What you need
We welcome applications from lawyers who:
- have at least 3 years technical experience with employers' liability and workers' compensation claims (with some technical experience in public liability, professional indemnity, property and business interruption and/or employment practices liability desirable, but not essential);
- understand and apply reserving philosophies in the insurance industry;
- demonstrate proficiency in the interpretation and application of the Civil Liability Act, Workers' Compensation and Injury Management Act and common law of torts and contract;
- are familiar with District Court, Supreme Court and Federal Court civil procedure and who preferably have experience arguing (or prepared submissions for) disputed interlocutory applications;
- can explain complex issues to clients clearly and concisely;
- have unwavering attention to detail and technical excellence;
- have a strong client focus and demonstrated ability to form enduring relationships with clients and industry experts
- thrive in a highly collaborative environment
- take pride in their work and who they work for.
