Your Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time permanent Data Platform Engineer to join our collaborative Digital team. In this role, you will be responsible for the configuration, administration, and optimisation of the firm’s data and analytics platforms ensuring they are secure, performant, and scalable as the firm expands its use of data, reporting and AI.
This role sits within the Digital team and provides the technical depth and hands-on expertise required to maintain, optimise and evolve the Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Fabric environments, in partnership with the firm’s Data Analytics and Insights team, Data Engineering, IT Applications and Cloud & Infrastructure. This role is available in our Sydney office with hybrid working arrangements available.
Responsibilities of your role include but are not limited to:
Data Platform Ownership & Configuration
- Administer, configure and optimise Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Fabric platforms, including capacity management, workspace governance and provisioning, gateway configuration, and tenant settings.
- Manage role-based access control (RBAC), permissions, and data gateway connectivity across on-prem, Azure, and AWS environments.
- Lead and support data workstreams, including migration, integration, enablement, and readiness by translating business needs into data requirements, facilitating workshops to align priorities, and developing conceptual and logical data models while managing glossaries, standards, and advising on data impacts of business changes.
- Implement and maintain Fabric components such as Dataflows, Lakehouse, Warehouse, and Synapse integration to enable and support Strategic, Tactical and Data Science/AI data capabilities across the organisation.
- Utilise the organisation's integration platform (Boomi) for data integration and orchestration, ensuring seamless connectivity between Power BI, Fabric, and enterprise data sources whilst maintaining data quality and governance standards.
- Implement Security, Governance, and Compliance Controls.
- Implement best practices for modelling, DAX, and performance tuning.
- Collaborate with the Data Engineering team to design and develop Fabric data modules, work with data stakeholders to gather and define data requirements, and partner with IT Infrastructure to support and maintain the Fabric infrastructure, ensuring stable, reliable data platforms that maximise business value through high-quality service delivery.
Deployment, Version Control & Release Management
- Build and maintain deployment pipelines (CI/CD) for Power BI and Fabric assets, integrating with Git (Azure DevOps or GitHub)
- Enable automated, scalable data ingestion and transformation, and maintain deployment documentation and configuration baselines for audit and recovery.
- Enforce versioning and release standards, ensuring consistent promotion of content across development, test, and production environments.
- Monitor Fabric and Power BI capacities, dataset refreshes, and workspace health using Fabric tools, APIs, and PowerShell, implementing automated monitoring and auditing scripts to support capacity management, workspace provisioning, governance reporting, and monthly software updates.
- Diagnose and resolve refresh failures, performance bottlenecks, and capacity spikes, performing root-cause analysis and remediation.
- Apply incident management procedures, ensuring service continuity and documented resolution of technical issues.
- Liaise with Microsoft and third-party vendors to resolve platform or capacity-related issues.
- Perform final review of self-service data models to validate performance, data accuracy, and adherence to platform standards.
More About You
We welcome applications from professionals who possess:
- Tertiary qualifications in IT or related degree
- 5+ years' experience supporting data platforms, with hands-on technical delivery and thought leadership in Microsoft Fabric and data integration solutions.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Fabric architecture and components, including OneLake, Lakehouse, Delta Lake, Data Factory pipelines, notebooks, and Spark/PySpark, with proven ability to design and implement end-to-end Fabric data modules.
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, security best practices, and compliance requirements, including row-level security (RLS), data classification, sensitivity labels, and access controls within Power BI and Microsoft Fabric environments.
- Strong expertise in data integration and orchestration using Microsoft Fabric Data Factory, Azure Data Factory, and enterprise integration platforms (e.g., Boomi), enabling seamless connectivity across hybrid and multi-cloud environments
- Expert in administering, configuring, and ensuring stability of Power BI and Microsoft Fabric platforms, including capacity management, workspace governance, tenant settings, and gateway configuration.
- Skilled in implementing CI/CD pipelines for Power BI and Fabric assets using GitHub (or Azure DevOps), with strong experience in Git-based workflows, version control, and automated deployment processes.
- Strong understanding of Azure data services and cloud-based Data Warehouse and Data Lake environments (Azure/AWS/GCP).
- Proficient in T-SQL, Python, and PySpark for data transformation, orchestration, and automation.
- Relevant Azure and Fabric certifications are desirable (DP-700, DP-600, PL-300, etc.).
- Exposure to AI and machine learning concepts, including LLMs (OpenAI, Bedrock), Azure AI Foundry
