Your Role

The Clients and Markets team at MinterEllison is a high-performing and critical contributor to the Firm’s growth. As a Market Growth Manager, you will play a central role in supporting the M&A practice to identify market opportunities, strengthen client relationships and convert commercial insights into targeted business development activity. This role will have a particular focus on the Firm’s M&A and Private Equity (PE) practices, working closely with Partners to support growth across priority clients, sectors and transaction opportunities.

Working closely with the Head of M&A and a core group of M&A and Private Equity Partners, you will combine strong market awareness, commercial judgement and internal relationship-building to help the practice identify opportunities early, position the Firm competitively and support Partners to pursue and win work.

M&A Market profiling and opportunity pipeline

  • Lead market intelligence and deal profiling activity for the M&A and Private Equity practices.
  • Maintain a pipeline of target opportunities to help prioritise pursuits and align activity with the practice’s and Firm’s strategic growth priorities.
  • Monitor and assess activity across priority segments, including private equity sponsors, corporates, listed companies, investment banks, financiers, advisers and other market intermediaries.
  • Translate market and deal intelligence into actionable insights and recommendations for Partners, supporting earlier and more targeted engagement with prospective clients and referrers.

Growth Strategy

  • Support the development and execution of growth strategies across priority M&A client segments, including Private Equity, ASX-listed companies and high-net-worth clients.
  • Work with Partners and key stakeholders to identify white space opportunities, competitor positioning gaps and areas for targeted business development investment.
  • Support go-to-market initiatives for priority growth sectors and clients, ensuring activity is focused, coordinated and aligned to broader Firm strategy.

Execution and collaboration

  • Develop high-quality pitch materials, credentials, client insights and market-facing collateral for strategic pursuits.
  • Coordinate cross-practice input where M&A opportunities intersect with other Lines of Business, ensuring a connected and commercial approach to client engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with the broader Clients and Markets team to share insights, leverage best practice and support Firm-wide growth initiatives.
  • Contribute to broader CMC and Firm initiatives as required.

Stakeholder relationships

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Partners across the Firm, drawing on their expertise and networks to support opportunity identification, pursuit strategy and client wins.
  • Develop close, collaborative working relationships with the Clients and Markets team and Business Operations stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Act as a trusted and connected point of contact who can mobilise internal resources quickly in response to market opportunities.

What You’ll Bring

Experience

  • Significant experience in business development, ideally within a law firm, professional services, corporate advisory, investment banking or financial services environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Australian corporate M&A and private capital markets, including private equity transaction dynamics and public company M&A.
  • Experience using market intelligence, client insights and relationship networks to identify opportunities and support targeted business development activity.
  • Proven ability to work closely with Partners, senior leaders or stakeholders to support pursuits, deepen client relationships and help convert opportunities into instructed work.
  • Experience preparing high-quality pitches, credentials, client materials or market-facing collateral.

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong commercial acumen and a genuine interest in M&A, private capital and the broader Australian corporate market.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, with the credibility and confidence to engage effectively with Partners, senior stakeholders and external market participants.
  • A collaborative and proactive mindset, with the ability to connect people, insights and opportunities across a complex matrix environment.
  • Strong analytical capability, with the ability to synthesise market and deal intelligence into clear, practical and actionable recommendations.
  • Highly organised and self-motivated, with the ability to manage competing priorities and operate with autonomy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, compelling and commercially focused materials.
  • Curious, agile and comfortable working in a growth-oriented environment where priorities may evolve quickly.
